Judy (Baker) SmithFebruary 19, 1940 ~ August 11, 2014It is with much love that we say goodbye to Judy. She passed peacefully with family by her side after a courageous seven year battle with cancer.Predeceased by her daughter Kim and her parents George and Vera Harcus. She is survived by her loving husband of 25 years Bob Smith of Nanaimo, son Darren (Barbi) of Vancouver, daughters Karie of Nanaimo and Jodi (Bruce) of Powell River, step-son Greg (Lori) of Ontario, step-daughter Tara (Andrew) McGifford of Port Alberni, brother Ron (Claire) of Burnaby and ten grandchildren.Judy was born and raised in Port Alberni and later moved to San Diego where she married. She eventually returned to her home town where she began a 35 year career with MacMillan Bloedel. Here, she met and married the love of her life, Bob Smith. Judy loved Port Alberni and developed many long lasting friendships.Judy and Bob moved to Nanaimo in 2000 where they continued their love of motorcycling and travelled extensively with their friends. The family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. R. Love, Dr. R. Marback, Dr. M. Dunne, Dr. Catherine Fitzgerald, and all the loving and caring nurses at the Nanaimo Cancer Clinic and the Palliative Care Ward. The family would also like to thank all of Judy's loving friends for the support and care they've shown. A celebration of life will take place on Wednesday, September 3 at 2:00 pm at the Alberni Golf Club, 6449 Cherry Creek Road, Port Alberni.In lieu of flowers if so desired, donations can be made to Canadian Cancer Society in Judy's name.
