JONES, Judy JUDY HOLT JONES Judy Holt Jones of Atlanta passed away at home on June 16, 2014. Judy was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend known for her loving, caring and charitable devotion to family and friends. Judy was born in Sturgis, Kentucky on February 9, 1933, one of seven children. She had two children, George Randall Jones, Jr. and Rebecca Ruth Jones. Judy was a proud and doting grandmother to Brent Randall Jones and his wife Tracey as well as a great grandmother to Jaxson Randall Jones. She was also a godmother to friend's children and grandchildren and a great aunt and cousin to many. Judy developed special relationships with many but none more so than with her daughter-in-law Gail Jones. Judy was affectionately called JuJu by her grandson and friends. Judy believed life is for the living and she spent her life, living, caring and working for others. Judy's accomplishments began early in life. She was an excellent student and became valedictorian of her High School Class. Judy's determination and zest for life coupled with her boundless energy served her well. She was a tireless, dedicated worker and student. She began her career working for Union Camp in Stone Mountain, Georgia. She would later become manager and part owner of Montreal Medical Center, President of the Georgia Medical Society, and director of Senate pages at the Georgia State Capitol. She eventually transitioned into the Governor's office, where she became Governor Zell Miller's front office manager because of her efficient, friendly, welcoming and personable ways. Judy next worked for the Hope Scholarship Program as an advocate for students furthering their education. Zell Miller said "She was the best PR and driving force in helping students attend college." Judy was such a firm believer in education that after a divorce in the mid 1980s she pursued a college degree at Georgia State University. She was a model for other students as she was able to attain outstanding grades while continuing her work at the Capitol and involvement with her church and numerous organizations. Judy graduated in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. A leader by example Judy Jones showed that with hard work, effort, and drive outstanding and wonderful things can happen. Recognition of Judy's talents came in the form of being elected or chosen as the President of the Auxiliary to the Medical Association of Georgia, National Commissioner's Award for Outstanding Leadership and Service in the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect, the Georgia Student Finance Commission Award for Dedicated Service and recipient of the Gracious Lady of Georgia Award. These are just a few of the many accolades, and awards that Judy Jones received and continued to receive up until her death. Judy Jones' life was driven by her strong religious beliefs and convictions. Her outgoing and loving nature served her well. She was extremely involved and committed to Peachtree Christian Church. She was an elder and chaired many committees as well as serving on many more through her years of service. The wedding committee for the church was one of her favorites. She worked tirelessly to make sure every bride and groom had the wedding of their dreams. She loved people and wanted to make them feel special. Judy hosted at her house numerous birthday parties, weddings, rehearsal dinners, small concerts, meetings, pool parties, faculty Christmas parties, wedding and baby showers, and gatherings of all types not just for her family but also for the church, friends, and others. Judy pursued life with vigor and assisted people in their times of need with encouragement, counsel, understanding, or a listening ear. She gladly contributed her time, talent, energy, expertise, and financial support to family, friends, and others in need. Judy in her later years served on the Kings Bridge Retirement Center's Board of Trustees and worked diligently for the Peachtree Christian Hospice. She was strong, confident, and a model of perseverance. She always thought no matter what the obstacles, people should passionately pursue their dreams. Judy Jones will be missed by many not only for her many accomplishments but for her love, compassion, time, help, and friendship. Judy is survived by her son, daughter, daughter-in-law, grandson, granddaughter-in-law, great grandson, as well as her sisters Betty Dorley, Dot Omer, Nancy Luckett and beloved in laws, Ginny Holt, Byron Brady and Ron Luckett.
