Family-Placed ObituaryEUGENE MAXWELL MOORE, Jr. Age 91, of Southport, CT and recently of Johnathan's Landing in Jupiter, died peacefully in his home in Southport on January 15, 2009. Mr. Moore was born in New York City in 1917, the son of Margaret Graham and Eugene M. Moore of New York and Greenwich, CT. Mr. Moore graduated from St. Paul's School, Concord, NH, and received a BA degree from Yale University in 1940 and an MS degree from MIT in 1954. Starting in 1941 he served as a pilot in the United States Air Force and assumed the role of Air Base Deputy Commander in China prior to his discharge with the rank of Major in February, 1946. He was decorated with a Distinguished Flying Cross and two Air Medals. He was employed by Manning, Maxwell and Moore Ð co-founded by his grandfather and a manufacturer of a variety of industrial products. Mr. Moore acquired the Brink and Cotton Manufacturing Company, a manufacturer of hand tools in Bridgeport in 1968 where he served as president until 1982. He was active in the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church in Fairfield, Connecticut and in the First United Church of Jupiter, Florida. His club memberships included the Country Club of Fairfield, the Yale Club, the Racquet & Tennis Club of New York City, and for many years the Ekwanok Country Club in Manchester, VT. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Edith Dent, his children, Eugene, Michael, Douglas and Edith and their spouses, his sister, Margaret Clucas, eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Margaret and his brother, William G. Moore. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 24, at 11 a.m. at the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church in Fairfield, CT.
