Bishop "Sonny" Carter, Jr., 77, of Trenton departed this life on Friday, January 23, 2015 at Water's Edge Nursing and Rehabilitation center.Born in West Blocton, AL, Mr. Carter moved to Bessemer, AL where he was educated at Carver Elementary and Dunbar High School. He was a member of Saddler's Chapel AME Church.After uniting in marriage to late Gwendolyn Miller Carter, Mr. Carter relocated to Trenton, NJ.Mr. Carter was employed by Denny's Restaurant as a Head Cook.He was a foster parent for over 30 years and also opened his home to assist Developmentally Disabled Young Adults.In addition to his wife, Mr. Carter was predeceased by his parents, Bishop, Sr. and Minnie Carter and a son, Ricky Carter; surviving are three sons, James E., Barron (Cynthia) and Bernard Carter; two daughters, Monica R. and Mary Carter; eight grandchildren, Stephanie, Tony, LaTanya, Brandon, Takahia, Diar, Tanelle and Tyson; six great grandchildren; one sister, Pamela Carter Smith; three brothers, James Carter (Zilphia), Tommie L. Carter and Gregory Carter (Faye) all of Birmingham, Al and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.Funeral Services will be Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Campbell Funeral Chapel, 1225 Calhoun St., Trenton, NJ Interment will be in Colonial Memorial Park.Calling hours will be Saturday, from 9 to 11 a.m., at the chapel.
