December 25, 2003 Joyce D. Smith, 69, of 1 Bartlett Avenue, Homer , NY died peacefully on Thursday morning, December 25, 2003 at Cortland Memorial Hospital, Cortland, NY. She was born September 6, 1934 in Bromyard, England, the daughter of Roland and Enid Harris Bufton. After her marriage to Phillips Perry Smith, of Homer, in 1955, she resided with him in his career as a Civil Engineer in England, California and Taiwan before settling in Homer in 1963. She retired in 1999 from her position as a Home Aide for Home Care for Cortland County. She made many friends throughout Central NY and Canada through her membership in the Syracuse Area Miniature Enthusiasts (S.A.M.E. ) club. She also enjoyed cooking and reading. Surviving are her stepchildren Sgt. Major Penelope Smith-Singleton of Los Angeles, CA and Vars Smith of Camillus, NY, along with several cousins and life-long friends in England. Her husband Phillips Perry Smith predeceased her in 1977. Memorial Services will be held at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, Inc. 5016 N. Main St., Homer, NY at 5 PM on Tuesday December 30th, The Pastor Chris Kinnell, of the Bellevue Heights United Methodist Church in Syracuse NY will be officiating.
