In Celebration and Tribute of the Life of JOYCE ANDERSON CPFDA A Florist for a Lifetime Joyce Anderson originally started in the industry working for Flowerland on Burrard Street in Vancouver in 1944. Joyce once recalled "I started working there for $2.25 a week. Her career took her to Roselawn Florist on Granville before a short stay at Bufton's. She moved on to Voque Flowers before finally settling in at Ford's Flowers on West 10th. Eventually Joyce opened her own shop, Joyce Flowers & Gifts on West Broadway which she ran successfully for 20 years. Joyce supposedly retired but could not leave the industry she loved so passionately. She started a floral design school with her sister Joan and partner Elaine and taught floral design for many years. She became the matriarch of the industry never missing any event. Joyce demonstrated in numerous design shows locally, nationally and internationally all in a drive to make the industry participants more recognizable and give floral designers the status she felt they deserved. In her drive to do so she became the mentor of many individuals and there are numerous stories of her passionate personal coaching of people of all ages. She was a constant promoter of the industry at large. Her enthusiasm was contagious. Joyce worked tirelessly on behalf of The Canadian Professional Floral Designers Association of which she was a founding member. FTD British Columbia Association, Flowers Canada, the Northwest Florist Association, the Child Foundation, The Guild of Floral Designers and others all became the recipients of her expertise and tireless efforts. The floral industry is in awe of a life that gave so much to so many. Joyce has left a gaping hole not soon to be filled. We love you and thank you Joyce. _ Your friends in the floral industry
