He was born in Lowell on Nov. 1, 1930, a son of the late Ralph A. and Ethel A. (Matthews) Bellegarde. He graduated from Chelmsford High School in 1948, and continued his education at the Bryant-Stratton School of Business.He served many years in the U.S. Naval Reserve.Mr. Bellegarde worked in several capacities at Grossman's in Billerica, starting work at the age of 14 and retiring as the manager of contracting sales.He enjoyed carpentry and was particularly proud of the house he built in Chelmsford. He had traveled extensively throughout Europe, and was an avid sports fan.Besides his wife, survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph and Maureen Bellegarde of Bellingham, and John and Anna Bellegarde of Leominster; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Tom Laundry of Bedford, and Mary and Stephen Smith of Hollis, N.H.; six grandchildren, Brian Laundry, Paul Smith, and Lisa, Meaghan, Alex and Kasey Bellegarde; his in-laws, John and Kathe Barretto of Billerica, and Daniel and Gloria Rosa of Woburn; several nieces and nephews; and many cousins, including William Bellegarde of Chelmsford.
