ANDERSON, JOSEPH DANIEL, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2008, at Oak Tree Hospital, in LaGrange, KY. He was born in Wilmington, NC. He was the son of Bishop Felix and Mrs. Bessie Bizzel Anderson. Joseph graduated from Hampton Institute, where he studied engineering and also performed as a member of the Hampton Terpsichorean Dance Company. He later continued his education at the Lowell Institute School under the auspices of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and was a life-long member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He was employed as an engineer for the Department of Housing and Urban Development, in both the Denver Regional and Louisville Area offices. After retiring from HUD, he realized a life long dream of opening his own engineering business, allowing him to continue to share his knowledge and skills with the professional community. Through his words and example, he inspired his children to meet life's challenges with patience, self-awareness and perseverance, to lift as they climbed, and above all, to stand by each other. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Bishop Herman Anderson Sr. and Theodore Anderson; and granddaughter, Hadasseh Blake. He is survived by his loving wife, the former Vernita Matillar; his children, Joseph II and Noel Anderson, John Walker, Valerie Korenke, Michelle Anderson and Niambi Cacchioli (Marc); his grandchildren, Lincoln Anderson, Jacob and Zachariah Mart, Adah Matthews and Portia Blake; his three siblings, brother, Felix S. Anderson, sisters, Mrs. Vivian Robinson (Wright) and Mrs. Helena Haney; his sisters-in-law, Patricia Matillar and Ruth Anderson; and a host of nieces and nephews. The family deeply appreciates the care and compassion given to Joseph by the doctors and staffs at Baptist Hospital East and Oak Tree Hospital, as well as friends who provided support during his illness. A private service was held at AD Porters Funeral Home, followed by an interment at Cave Hill Cemetery.
