Sentinel & Enterprise LUNENBURG -- Joseph A. Lavallee, 73, of 31 Round Road, Lunenburg, died Sunday, Oct. 26, at home, after an illness. He was born on Jan. 2, 1930, in Williston, the son of Arthur I. and Azilda (Roux) Lavallee, and moved from Vermont, living in the Lunenburg-Leominster area since 1937. He attended St. Cecilia’s School in Leominster and St. Bernard’s Central Catholic High School in Fitchburg. Mr. Lavallee was a retired employee of the U.S. government. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War serving as a staff sergeant attached to the 5th Air Force and later the 8055 MASH and the 25th Division. Mr. Lavallee was a life member of VFW Post 1807 in Leominster, past post commander and quarter-master since 1977 and a life member of the VFW Honor Degree. He was also a member of the DAV Chapter 24 Leominster and the Amvets Post 38 and the American Legion Post 151, both in Leominster, the Leominster Franco American War Vets Post 13 in Leominster and for many years was involved with the disabled and hospitalized veterans at various area VA hospitals as a post officer and as Massachusetts department officer. He was also a member of the AARP and an original member of the Montachusett TSL Chapter. He leaves his wife, Noella (Maillet) Lavallee of Lunenburg; two sons, Joseph A. Lavallee Jr. and John J. Lavallee, both of Lunenburg; one brother, Dr. Charles P. Lavallee of Victorville, Calif.; six sisters, Lillian Sears, Dorothy Hanley, Therese Infantino and Madeline Marcoux, all of Leominster, Aline Infantino of Florida and Marie Blondin of Dracut; two grandchildren, Jennifer and Jessica Lavallee, both of Lunenburg; and many nephews and nieces. Six brothers and one sister predeceased him. LAVALLEE -- On Oct. 26, Joseph A. Lavallee, 73, of Lunenburg. The funeral will be held Thursday, Oct. 30, from the M.A. Simard & Son Funeral Home, 14 Walker St., Leominster, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Leo’s Church, 128 Main St., Leominster. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Leo’s Cemetery, Leominster. Calling hours in the funeral home are Wednesday, Oct. 29, from 5 to 8 p.m.
