John Willie Carter of Magnolia Place Nursing Home, Mauldin, died Friday. Born in Laurens County, a son of the late James Carter and Lillie Mae Jenkins Carter, and husband of the late Elizabeth Croft Carter. He was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church, Simpsonville, and was a retired employee of Bahan Textiles in Greenville. He is survived by one son, Willie James Carter, of Piedmont; four daughters, Queen Ware and Ellen Mangle of Simpsonville, the Rev. Jenny Daniels of Mauldin, and Katie Mae Ware of Greenville; one sister, Ola Mae Berry, of Buffalo, N.Y.; 21 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral service: 3 p.m. Thursday at Poplar Springs Baptist Church, Simpsonville, with the Rev. Vardry Freeman and Dr. A.B. Brown officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Visitation: Today from 7 to 7:30 p.m. at the Beasley Funeral Home, Fountain Inn. The family is at the home of James and the Rev. Jenny Daniels, 106 Brookbend Court, Mauldin.
