Cocoa Beach, FL - John ìJackî W. Lasley, III of Cocoa Beach, FL passed away at the home of his daughter in Athens, GA on Sunday, November 27, 2005. He was born in Chapel Hill, NC on June 23, 1925 the son of Dr. John W. Lasley, Jr. originally of Burlington, NC and Edna Bain Millikan originally of Greensboro, NC. He graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill and counseled in law in private practice there for many years. He was the founder of the Institute for International Studies in Chapel Hill; primarily, a free service to young men seeking alternative solutions to the draft for the war in Vietnam. All of his life he worked and wrote for his desire for global peace, citizenís rights and dignity for all living things. He authored numerous articles and books such as My Country Right or Wrong, The Power Within and The Threat of Radical Fundamentalism. His passions were playing the guitar and dobro and building; from homes to barns to surfboards. At one time he raised beef cattle, another time he was the top surfer in his age group and in his later years he painted hundreds of floral scenes. He loved his family, his home and the nature around him. He lived very simply and with self discipline, honesty and integrity.He is survived by his four children, Mary Ann Lasley Lewis of Athens, GA, John Wayne Lasley, IV of Virginia Beach, VA, James Millikan Lasley of Cocoa Beach, FL and Elizabeth Lasley Thompson of Asheville, NC.
