->John W. "Jack" Cooper1931 - 2015WATERVILLE - John W. "Jack" Cooper of Saco and formerly of Waterville, died on Friday, March 27, 2015, at the VA Medical Center in Togus. He was born on Feb. 6, 1931, in Somerville, Mass., the son of James and Ruth (Hicks) Cooper and was raised and educated in the Holyoke, Mass. area.He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the U.S.S. Zellars in the North Atlantic. Jack had worked for the railroad both before and after his military service, but had spent much of his working life as a paving contractor in the Waterville-Vassalboro area.He enjoyed racehorses and had once owned and raced them.Jack liked people and enjoyed socializing.He is survived by his wife Isabella Stanley Cooper of Saco; two daughters: Sandra Cooper of Ware, Mass., and Elizabeth Cooper of Boston, Mass., two sons: Edward Cooper of Bolton, Conn., and Mark Cooper of Lodi, N.J., three stepsons: Donald Poirier of Clinton, Keith Poirier of Winslow, and Sean Poirier of Skowhegan, one stepdaughter: Karen Poirier of Bridgton; and several grandchildren.Visiting hours will be from 1-5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2015, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Biddeford.
