<!-- DisplayFullObituaryText -->New AlbanyFleming, John Thomas,John was born on October 26, 1955, in Vidalia, GA, where he attended First Baptist Church with his family and graduated from Vidalia High School in 1973. He graduated from Auburn University with a B.S. in marine biology in 1976 and a M.S. in physiology in 1978. He received a Ph.D. in pharmacology from the University of Georgia in 1980. On September 6, 1980, he married and moved to Columbia, Missouri, as a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Missouri. In 1981 he and his wife moved to southern Indiana, and he served as a faculty member at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. He taught in the medical, dental, and graduate programs and conducted research in the medical school's physiology department for 30 years until retirement.John was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Clarksville, Indiana, and served as deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years. He loved serving his church and community, fishing with his boys, watching ballgames, and traveling with his family.John is preceded in death by his father, Thomas Homer Fleming, Vidalia.He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Wanda Nipper Fleming, New Albany; three children, Brock Thomas Fleming and his wife Ashley, Henryville, IN; Wesley Joseph Fleming and his wife Rachel, New Albany and Patrick Jonathan Fleming, New Albany, IN; his mother Lois Jackson Fleming, Vidalia, 6A; his sister Landra Edwards, Birmingham, AL; and three grandchildren, Sydney Noelle Fleming, Henryville, and Jude Michael Fleming and Piper Prudence Fleming, New Albany.Visitation is Friday, October 3, 2014 from 2-8 p.m. at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Pkwy., Jeffersonville, IN, and service is Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.The family has requested memorial contributions in lieu of flowers. The memorial chosen by the family is the University of Louisville's dementia research program. Checks are to be made out to The University of Louisville Foundation, then add Dr. John T.
