A man born in Regina but meant for the coast, where he met the love of his life Yvonne when he was 18. They married in 1946 and were together for 68 love-filled years.Jack served in the forces during WWII where he spent 2.5 years on the HMS Warspite as an Engine Room Artificer, the ship at times shelling the coast of Holland in an attempt to let forces land. Jack found serving on a British ship to be a very rewarding experience. Nearing the end of the war he travelled by train back to Vancouver arriving on VE Day. After marriage he and Yvonne settled into an apartment off Commercial Drive. Both of them were very active skiers, buying a cabin (the NutHut) in the Village on Grouse Mountain; Jack helped construct the original wood chairlift up Grouse. Many happy weekends were spent up there with a host of Tyee Club members. Ski holidays to Sun Valley Idaho were a regular occurrence during Jack's 32 years with the City of Vancouver. His final years there were in the property division, a position he loved as he found his colleagues to be a pleasure to work with.Boating became a passion for the two of them, starting with a power boat but over time this moved to sailboats. Joining the WVYC in 1983 brought many cherished relationships, special times and adventures. The two of them so loved the yacht club and its members. Retirement brought a huge joy to the two of them, with many cruises under their belt, including trips to Italy, England and beyond. For anyone who knew Jack well, he was a man who had a constant smile and positive attitude. Smiling Jack has to be a great description of a man very content with his life. This will be missed by all. Jack leaves his sister Barbara Easton of Edmonton, niece Barbara Saba of Danville, CA, and niece Sheila Domino of Kamloops. Yvonne extends her love and thanks for the support always provided by Sheila and Brenda Kelsey (close family friend). A Celebration of Life will be held at the WVYC, 5854 Marine Drive, West Vancouver on Saturday September 27 at 4:00 PM. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, Yvonne has asked that donations be made to the charity of your choice.
