John Russell Connell MONTICELLO - John Russell Connell, age 76, passed away in Springfield, Fla., on Dec. 7, 2008. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. EST Thursday, December 11, 2008 at Cody Pentecostal Holiness Church in Cody, Fla. Interment will follow at Beth Page cemetery. The family will receive friends from, 6 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 10, at Beggs Funeral Home Monticello Chapel (850-997-5612), 485 E. Dogwood Street, Monticello, Fla. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Clifford Chester Sims State Veteran's Nursing Home, 4419 Tram Road, Springfield, FL 32404-2559.Mr. Connell was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County and had lived in Lamont, Fla., for 42 years. He was a member of Woodmen of the World and served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 17 years, of which three years were in Korea. Mr. Connell retired from the Florida Department of Corrections, with over 25 years of service.He is survived by one son Hubert (Martha Ann) Hightower of Waukeenah; two grandsons James (Gretna) Hightower of Monticello and Lester (Ellen) Hightower of Jacksonville; granddaughter Allison (Clay) Courson of Tallahassee; two brothers, Winston (Jeanette) Connell of Greenville and Malcolm Connell of Boston, Ga.; one sister, Charlotte McKown of Monticello; and four great-grandchildren, Nikki Hightower, Elizabeth Hightower, James Austin Hightower and Andrew Hightower.Mr. Connell was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Walker Connell; son James H. Hightower; granddaughter Dale Hightower; great-grandson Austin Porter; brothers J. W. Connell and Edwin Connell; and sisters Faye Harris and Agnes Barrett.
