John Robert Howard - 97 years old December 27, 1916-April 16, 2014 "Bob, John, Big Bob, Grandpa" Big Bob passed away peacefully this past Wednesday, April 16. He lived a full and happy life and always had a big smile on his face. Big Bob had the kindest of hearts and treated everyone like a best friend. His wife of more than sixty years, Beverly Howard, died in 2001. Also preceding him in death were his parents, Charles K. and Lola Howard, and 5 siblings. Bob was born and raised on a farm in Oklahoma City, OK. He moved his young family to Ft. Lauderdale in the 1950's looking for opportunity and the means to support his three children. He worked in the glass business, opening Broward Glass in 1958, which is still family owned at 610 NW 7th Ave. Big Bob could be seen at work every weekday and Saturdays. He served in the US Army in World War II. He was a Shriner, Mason and a member of the Kiwanis Club of Ft. Lauderdale for many years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church since moving to Ft. Lauderdale and could be seen there every Sunday. Bob's true love were his friends and family. Survivors include children; James Howard, Cynthia Coyle, Sara (Morris) Penland, Grandsons; Bobby Coyle, Billy Coyle, wife Heather, 3 Great- Grandchildren; Jack, Lilly, Lilah, and dear companion, Margaret Paiement. Thanks to all at Manor Pines Convalescent Center, Hospice, and Kathy Hunter. Visitation will be at Kraeer-Fairchild Funeral Home Tuesday 6:00-7:00 PM. A church service will be at First United Methodist Church Wed. at 10:30 AM, and gathering afterward in reception Hall. Private burial will follow.
