John R. "Dick" Williams, 77, Kirkland, Ill., and Punta Gorda, died Dec. 12, 2004. He was born March 17, 1927, in Walnut, Ill. He had wintered in Punta Gorda since 1984. He had served in the Army Air Forces and was a retired teacher, basketball and baseball coach, athletic director, guidance counselor and farmer. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Kirkland, Ill., and of the Elks for 49 years, American Legion Carlson Post 1207 of Rockford, and past president of the Lions Club. He was elected to the Illinois High School Athletic Hall of Fame and Northern Illinois University Hall of Fame. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Jeanette; a son, Thomas R. of Sun Prairie, Wis.; and sisters Jean Totman and Margaret Sawyer, both of Sycamore, Ill., and Harriet Van Ornum of Hot Springs Village, Ark. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services, Punta Gorda Chapel. Services will be in Kirkland, Ill.
