John R. Rote II, 89, Casey Key, Nokomis, died Jan. 10, 2006 in Venice. He was born June 28, 1916, in Harrisburg, Pa., and came to Casey Key in 1978 from Westfield, N.J. He retired after 33 years as the chief buyer for the directories department of Western Electric, a unit of the Bell System. He received a bachelor's degree in economics in 1938 from Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, Pa., where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha. He received a master's degree in management from Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, N.J. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Virginia (Puleston); a son, John R. III of Pittsfield, Maine; daughters JoAnn Waer of Southport, N.C., and Marjorie Ann Becker of North Canaan, Conn.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Services and burial will be today at Florida National Cemetery. Ewing Funeral Home, Venice, is in charge.
