JOHN P. WILLIAMS PORTAGE, IN John P. Williams, age 84, of Portage, passed away Monday, February 6, 2012. He was born on May 7, 1927 in Valparaiso, IN to Guy and Lillian (nee Baldwin) Williams. John is survived by three sisters: Rose Sentoro, Mildred (Mike) Padilla, both of Portage, and Joan Nicalek of Bradenton, FL; a host of nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife, Irma "Polly". John attained a Masters Degree in English and taught English at Portage High School. He served in the Army and Air Force and was a member of American Legion Post #260 and also F&A M Masons. John was the third mayor of Portage. He was the Portage Township Trustee for 12 1/2 years, and was a Portage School Board Member. He helped build the Bonner Senior Center in Portage and helped with the start-up of the Porter County ambulance service. John wrote many guest editorials for local papers and always had a joke that began with "did you hear about....." Along with his wife, Polly, they rescued and cared for many cats. Family and friends may call at Pruzin Brothers Funeral Service, 2700 Willowcreek Road, Portage on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Legion service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. from Pruzin Brothers Chapel with Rev.
