CHARLOTTE, N.C. - John Patrick Connell, 84, died May 15, 2012, at home. He was born April 22, 1928, in Rutland, Vt., the son of Charles and Dorothy L. Connell, and attended local schools. He retired after 28 years in the U.S. Army, including during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was awarded three Bronze Stars, two Purple Hearts, a meritorious service medal and honorary medal from the Vietnamese government, as well as other military awards. Survivors include his companion of 29 years, Donna Hickman; two children, John and Leisha Connell; six grandchildren; two siblings, Charles Connell and Betty Jarvis. Mr. Connel was predeceased by a daughter, Carleen Dudley; four siblings, Carolyn, Mary, Jim and Donald. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 17, at All Saints Catholic Church, 530 SC Hwy 274, Lake Wylie, SC 29710.
