MORIARTY John Moriarty, 87, of Venice Fla., died on March 16, 2003. He was born in Holyoke, Mass., on June 28, 1915 and lived in Fairfield from 1937 to 1999. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Holyoke, and Holy Cross College in Worcester, Mass. He was chairman of the Holy Cross President's Council from 1972 to 1974 and received their Hoc Signo award, the highest honor for an alumnus. His career began at General Electric in Bridgeport, joining Warnaco in 1941 He was president of the Warner Division of Warnaco and served on the its Board of Directors from 1967 until his retirement in 1980. A former president of the American Apparel Education Foundation, he received the Flame of Truth Award in 1975. During World War II he served as a captain in the Army Air Forces in the China, Burma, India theaters, and earned three combat battle stars. He was a member of the University, the Algonquin, and Brooklawn Country Clubs in Bridgeport, the Union League and The Empire State Clubs in New York City, and a charter member of the Jacaranda Country Club in Venice, Fla. He leaves his wife, Flora; daughter, Maureen of Nokomis; son, John of Bangkok, Thailand, son Robert, of Fairfield; and 12 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Michael. A funeral Mass will be held at the Chapel at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Venice at 11 a.m. on March 22, 2003. The burial service at St. Thomas Cemetery in Fairfield will be announced later.
