-> John L. "Jim" Lee, age 84, died Friday, December 12, 2003. The Winston, GA native graduated from Douglas County High School and was recruited by Marist High School in Atlanta on a football scholarship. He attended the University of Georgia on a football scholarship and played on award winning teams in the Rose Bowl in 1942 and the Orange Bowl in 1943. He enlisted in the United Sates Marine Corps and was stationed first in Hawaii then Sasebo, Japan. He retired from the Marine Corps as a major. He married Laura Grace McFee on December 31, 1941, with who he had five children. He was a 50-year member of the Masons, having joined the Masonic Lodge in 1951. He was also a member of the Alee Temple of the Shrine. He retired from Graybar Electric Company after 35 years of service. Laura McFee Lee died in 1978 and in 1979 he married Sara Thomas in Savannah who died in 2000. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, the Exchange Club, the Elk s Club and the Coastal Sports Club. A son, Robert Alan Lee, also preceded him in death. Surviving are three daughters, Judy Lee McVey of Twin City, GA, Linda Lee Moore of Smyrna and Cathy Lee of Atlanta; a son, John W. Lee of Chattanooga, TN; a step-son, John Thomas and his wife, Laura, of Savannah; seven grandchildren, Cate Lee and Cheryl Lee, both of Chattanooga, TN, Jonathan Thomas, Jessica Thomas, Joshua Thomas, Lindsay Thomas and Dylan Thomas, all of Savannah; and his best friend, Leland Thrash of Savannah; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation: 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 14, 2003, at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Monday at H.M. Patterson Sons Funeral Home, Spring Hill Chapel, in Atlanta. Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16, 2003, in the Kellett Chapel of Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Atlanta. Burial: Decatur City Cemetery. Remembrances: Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 51 Wilmington Island Road, Savannah, GA 31410.
