He was born on September 19, 1924 in Shenandoah, PA to John G. and Anna (Honus) Kull. On September 25, 1948, John married Patricia Infusino of Utica, NY, who survives. The two moved to Northwest Indiana where he worked for E.I. DuPont for 35 years and raised their four children: Mary Ann (Tom) Brecht of Clarkston, MI, Michael (Suzy) Kull and Carol (Greg) Costakis both of Valparaiso, IN and Steve (Tammy) Kull of Frankfort, KY. He was most proud of his grandchildren, who all will miss "Grandpop": T.J. (Christina) and Chris Brecht, Jon and Katie Kull, Matt and Alex Costakis and Steven Michael Kull. John served as a Sergeant in Company I of the 407th Army Infantry, 102nd Infantry Division during WWII and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Service Star and ultimately the Purple Heart for injuries received in combat. He graduated from St. Francis College in Loretto, PA with a B.S. in Chemistry. John and Pat believed in Catholic education and were active in Our Lady of Grace School and parish. Upon his retirement from DuPont in 1983, John spent the next 21 years living on Hamlin Lake near Ludington, MI, sharing his love of the outdoors and passion for fishing with his grandchildren. Proud of his service to his country, John humbly requested that he be buried in a National cemetery. Honoring his request and commitment to his religion, there will be a Mass of Christian Burial Monday, April 28, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila, Valparaiso, IN with Fr. Kevin McCarthy officiating. A burial with military honors will take place following mass at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Joliet, IL.
