Old Saybrook - John J. Bowes III of Old Saybrook passed away on Oct. 28, 2011, after a long battle with cancer.Born on Aug. 4, 1929, to John Joseph Bowes II and Mary (Foley) Bowes of Waterford, John graduated in 1948 from Chapman Tech followed by four years in the U.S. Air Force where he met, and later married the love of his life, Darlene Losey in 1951, while stationed in Wichita, Kan.John is survived by his wife, Darlene, and their four children, son, John and wife, Cindy (Commander) and their children, Christine and John; daughter, Susan and her children, Paul, Brian, and Krista; son, Mark and wife, Fran (Dannaher) and their children, Shannon, Mark, Sean, and Brennan; and son, Matthew and wife, Lisa (Patrick) and their children, Matthew and Susan; as well as nine great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary McClure of Waterford.He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Edward and Joseph of Waterford. Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at the Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Road, Old Saybrook.
