John H. Connell, of Hull, formerly of Cohassett & Hingham unexpectedly after a brief illness on Thursday, August 26, 2010 he was 77 years old. Devoted uncle of Janet Fay Johnson of Hull, Emily "Lee" Fay and Tracey Fay both of Quincy, whom he raised. Son of the late William and Emily (Delorey) Connell. Brother of the late William F. Connell, Jr., Emily (Connell) Lombardo and Margaet (Connell) Fay.Great Uncle of Mark F. Johnson of Waltham and Sarah Fay Johnson of Chicago. John is also survived by several cousins and many dear close friends. John was born and grew up in Hingham. A graduate of Hingham High School class of 1950. He received his bachelor's degree in science from Boston University in 1954. John served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was awarded an honorable discharge in 1956. After his military service, he began his career in teaching. He spent many years as a biology teacher in the Randolph School System. John was a volunteer with the Cohasset Historical Society as well as a former member of the Board of Directors for RAH Federal Credit Union. He was an avid antique dealer as well as a collector. John also enjoyed collecting art. He loved attending yard sales, searching for an antique or great piece of hidden art. John loved to travel especially to Nova Scotia and Florida. Ballroom dancing was a favorite of Johns as well as attending show at the Music Circus. He was an avid reader who also enjoyed crossword puzzles. John loved to ride his bike and enjoyed his walks along Nantasket Beach. He had a hidden talent as a financial wizard, and the "Luck of the Irish" seemed to follow him as well. He was one to never shyed away from a discussion about politics or current events. A true gentleman with a great sense of humor. John will be remembered as a humble, generous and devoted uncle who was always there supporting and encouraging the three girls he raised. They will be forever grateful for all the blessings he brought into their lives. Visiting hours was Monday, August 30 from 4 -8 p.m. in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), Hingham. A Celebration of Life Service was held in the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, August 31 prior to the Funeral Mass in Saint Paul's Church at 11 a.m. which will be celebrated by John's longtime childhood friend Fr. Bill Russell, S. J. Immediately following the Mass please join John's family for a luncheon at South Shore Country Club in Hingham. Burial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be made to the Cohasset Historical Society, 106 South Main Street, Cohasset, MA 02025-2097. A proud United States Army Veteran.
