JOHN F. CURTIN John F. Curtin, 94, of Vero Beach, FL, died Saturday, August 26, 2006 at his residence after a lengthy illness. Mr. Curtin was born August 6, 1912 in New York City. He graduated from New York University and Harvard University in Civil Engineering. During World War II, he was cited by the War Dept. for his role as Director of Transportation and Evacuation at the Manhattan Project in Oak Ridge, TN, where the Atom Bomb was developed. Mr. Curtin was Managing Partner of Simpson and Curtin Engineers in Philadelphia, and retired as Vice President of Booz Allen and Hamilton. He was a former Town Engineer for Indian River Shores. Mr. Curtin is survived by son, J. Barry Curtin, Esq. and daughter-in-law Ann of Palm Beach Gardens; grandson, John Brennan Curtin; brother Thomas Curtin of Bronxville, NY. His wife of 66 years, Rosel, preceded him in death in January of 2006. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Friday, September 1 at Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach with a prayer vigil held at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Saturday, September 2nd at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach. Interment will follow in John's Island Cemetery, Indian River Shores. Memorial contributions may be made to the University of Notre Dame, Southbend, IN, in memory of Mr. Curtin.
