John Eustler Williams, 90, a fifth generation resident of Ozark, and great-great-grandson of Ozark founding father, John Hoover, died on Tuesday, August 8, 2006, after a long illness. He was born September 17, 1915, in Ozark, Mo., to the late Ernest and Lilly Williams. He was a graduate of Ozark High School. John served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and the U.S. Army Air Corps, during World War II, where he attained the rank of Master Sergeant. His wife, Marybelle (Bader) Williams, preceded him in death. Mr. Williams retired from Sears Roebuck and Company as an executive in their Southern California division. Mr. Williams also taught refrigeration at the community college level. Following his retirement in 1971, John returned to his boyhood home in Ozark. He became active in the Christian County Historical Museum and authored a book on the history of Christian County, titled "Bygone Days". He was an expert genealogist and an avid supporter of the Christian County Library. Mr. Williams was also a life long motorcycle enthusiast, owning classic and racing motorcycles for over 75 years. He is the holder of a world land speed record at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. Two daughters, Marilyn Shipman and Judy Williams, both of Ozark, survive John. Five grandchildren, Danny Ross, Jacqueline Ross of Ozark, Ron Kitchens of Portage, Michigan, John Kitchens of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Mark Rodney of Ozark, also survive him. He leaves behind seven great-grandchildren. His son, John Robert Williams, as well as two brothers and sisters preceded him in death. His sister, Anne McLean of California, survives him. Visitation is from 1 to 7 p.m. today, Aug. 11, at Adams Funeral Home in Ozark. Graveside services will be held at the Ozark City Cemetery, in the Williams family section, at 11 a.m. Sat., Aug. 12th.
