CASEY, JOHN ERWIN, 87Ocala - John Erwin Casey, 87, passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 in Ocala. Born in Manistique, MI on December 23, 1925; son to the late James Victor and Mary Mabel (Gray) Casey. He moved to Florida from Lansing, IL in 1982. John was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran; having served aboard USS Doyen (APA-1), and USS Kenneth D. Bailey (DD-713). His career was that of a tug boat Captain in Chicago, IL and later became an electrician for Pullman Standard Inc. of Chicago, retiring in 1982. John was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church of Ocala, life member of the VFW including Lansing, IL and in Florida the cities of Ocala, Belleview, Hernando and Fort McCoy Posts and a former member of the Experimental Aircraft Assoc., the Ocala Power Squadron and the Ocala Flying Model Club. He enjoyed golfing and fishing. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary; five siblings, Victor, Sister Mary Casey, Olive Conry, James, Joseph and a dear friend, Avis Hammond. John is survived by his sons, John Wesley Casey of Palatine, IL and Michael James Casey of Ocala; siblings Isabel of Hilliard, FL and Richard of Sun City, AZ and many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. in the Timber Ridge Chapel of Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 9695 SW 110th St,. Ocala. A Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 8:30 A.M. at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 6455 SW State Road 200, Ocala, FL 34476. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell. Memorial Contributions may be given to VFW Retirement Home, Fort McCoy, FL or the Marine Corps Toys for Tots.
