John D. Miller December 8, 1932 - September 16, 2007 Scotland - John Downs Miller, 74, of Scotland, husband of Irene Mary "Polly" Miller, died Sunday, September 16, 2007 in Windham. He was born December 8, 1932 in Newark, NJ, the son of George W. and Gertrude J. (Jacobsen) Miller. He was a graduate of Windham High School, attended UConn and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement in 1991, John was employed as a systems analyst for 29 years at the EB Division of General Dynamics. He was also the co-owner and president of Outdoor Barbecues Inc. John was an active member of the Scotland Republican Party and served on the Board of Assessors. He enjoyed his home, gardens and animals but most of all, his family. In addition to his wife of 47 years, whom he married April 30, 1960 at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Norwich, he is survived by two sons, J. Michael Miller and his wife Tracey of Lebanon, Peter A. Miller and his wife Terry of Scotland; a grandson, Nick Miller; two brothers, George W. Miller Jr. and his wife Muriel of Hampton, Robert W. Miller of North Windham, a sister, Nancy E. Dotson and her husband Richard of Hudson, Ohio. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic on Thursday, September 20th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
