CALAIS - John "Jackie" Connell, 58, of Calais, husband of Josie Ameden Connell and father to Sierra and Silas Miller and Georgia Connell, died July 8, 2012. Born in Providence, R.I., to John "Jack" and Maria Louisa Santia Putenza Rossi Connell on May 19, 1954, John leaves a wide network of friends. He is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and ThomasKolouch, of Scottsdale, Ariz. John was an amazing athlete, passionate about hockey, skiing, hiking, biking, baseball, sailing and any and many other outdoor activities. He was a skilled craftsman, who was committed to excellence in all he undertook. John was devoted to his family and community, especially to coaching and educating youth. He served on the Calais Elementary School Board from 2008 until his death, among his many contributions to the Calais community. John was a vibrant example of optimism in the face of adversity. He will continue to be an inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to meet him. A memorial service is planned July 14, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Old West Church in Calais, with a reception to follow.
