DAVIS, John Bruce WWII Veteran - R.C.A.F. Squadron 409 (Nighthawk)- Radar Queen's University B.Comm, 1949 Retired from Statistics Canada Peacefully and surrounded by his loving family at the Ottawa Hospital, Civic Campus on Wednesday, March 9th, 2005 in his 83rd year. Beloved husband of Paula Worton (British War Bride) in their 60th year of marriage. Adored father of Paddy Williams and Diana Davis in Ottawa and Carolyn Heymans (Philip) in Kingston. Cherished by his four grandchildren: Andrea, Ne il, Kathleen and Marisa. Dear brother of Margaret Keys (Roy) in Barrie, Ontario. John was predeceased by his parents, Norman and Grace Davis of Ottawa and by his brother Robert Davis of Albany, New York. He is also survived by many loved nieces and n ephews. During his distinguished career as Assistant Director of Health Statistics at Statistics Canada, John developed many programs that are still used by Canadian Hospitals today. He also worked extensively with the World Health Organization revis ing the International Classification of Diseases (ICD V9.0). During retirement John was active in fighting against the reductions in health care and hospital re-structuring, always advocating for the health care system. He was an avid writer to the e ditorial page of the Ottawa Citizen on these matters. With the love and care of his devoted Paula, John courageously and valiantly bore his long illness with dignity, humour and tenacity, fighting to the end and never once complaining. He was an insp iration to all that he met. John had tremendous support through out his long illness from his team of doctors, including Drs. Glinski and MacLeod, the CCAC physios (John, Christine, Deena and Karen), the nurses and staff of A5 at the Civic Hospital a nd many other wonderful and caring support workers. Without you Dad would not have had the quality of life that he was fortunate to have for so long. "You will be greatly missed, forever remembered and always loved but we know that you are now at pea ce and can breathe freely again without suffering. We were all so blessed to have had you in our lives. We won't say goodbye we will just say until we meet again." Friends may call at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road (bet ween Bayshore and Baseline Road), Nepean on Sunday, March 13, 2005 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held in the chapel on Monday at 11 a.m. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Ottawa Chapter of the Lung Association o r to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation Civic Campus.
