John Alviggi Jr., 82, of Homosassa, Fla., passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2014, at Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness, Fla. Friends will be received on Friday, March 28, 2014, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Wilder Funeral Home, Homosassa, Fla., where a celebration of John's life will be held at 6 p.m. Interment will take place on Monday, March 31, at 10:30 a.m. at Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, Fla A native of West Orange, N.J., John was born June 2, 1931, to John Sr. and Veronica (Kent) Alviggi, one of two children. He retired to Homosassa in 1986 from West Orange, N.J., and was a retired vice president of First Fidelity Bank in New Jersey, now known as Wells Fargo Bank. He was also a former brokerage manager in the insurance industry. As an avid and talented basketball player, Mr. Alviggi was a member of the West Orange High School state championship team of 1949. He attended Lafayette College in Easton, Pa., under a basketball scholarship, earning a bachelor's degree in business. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, serving as a first lieutenant, and also played basketball for the Army. John loved fishing, hunting and playing golf, and was past club champion of both the Fairmount Country Club, Chatham, N.J., and Sugarmill Woods Country Club, Homosassa. John is survived by his wife of 61 years, Frances E. "Fran" Alviggi, Homosassa, Fla.; daughter, Lynn E. Heinz (George), Venice, Fla.; daughter, Janet Urso (Joseph), West Orange, N.J.; son, John L. Alviggi (Paula), Chalfont, Pa.; brother, James Alviggi (Barbara), West Orange, N.J.; and grandchildren, Keith, Gregory and Kelly Heinz, Jessica and Joseph Urso and Jack Alviggi.
