SELMA | John Allen Colburn, age 78, of Selma, Alabama passed away May 12, 2014. He was born in Perry County, Alabama on July 9, 1935 to Sam and Bertha Colburn who preceded him in death.The funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Kirk Funeral Home in Marion, Alabama at 3 p.m. with Rev. James Waters officiating. Burial will follow at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery with Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel directing. Visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joyce Brady Colburn; his children, Lisa Colburn Porter (H. Wayne) of Gaithersburg, Maryland, Allen Colburn (Cecelia) and Beverly Colburn Barron (David) both of Panama City, Florida; his grandchildren, Kara Colburn, Brady Colburn, Allyson Barron, and Abbigail Barron; and one great-grandchild, Arianna Marie Boston. He is also survived by his brother, Sam Colburn (Betty) and his sister, Evelyn Nichols.John graduated from Suttle High School, Marion Military Institute, and the University Of Alabama with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He worked for Arizona Chemical Company in Panama City, Florida for 33 years.John enjoyed sailing, painting, gardening, sports, and visiting with friends.
