John Alden Hines III, 57, Sarasota, died Oct. 27, 2002. He was born April 10, 1945, in New York City and came to Sarasota in 1960 from California. He was a retired Sarasota police officer. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police of Sarasota. He graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a Christian. Survivors include his mother, Carol Pitsch of New Port Richey; a daughter, Jennifer Guin of Graceville; a son, Douglas Bartels of Bradenton; sisters Nancy McCarthy of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., Kathy Marques of White Sands Missile Range, N.M., Janice Billingsly of Satellite Beach, and Lynn McDivitt of Melbourne; brothers James Pitsch of Bellevue, Neb., and Brian Pitsch of Lorton, Va.; and two grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the FOP Lodge, 3600 Circus Blvd., Sarasota. The Good Earth Crematory, Bradenton, is in charge.
