Lowell- Mr. John A. Kassin a resident of Lowell, died June 30, 2007 in Lowell, aged 89 years. A World War II Veteran. He was the husband of the late Dorothea (Farris) Kassin. Mr. Kassin was born September 25, 1917 the son of the late Alexander and Mickalina Kasinskas. He received his early education in the Lowell school system and was a graduate of Lowell High School with the Class of 1935. He continued his education at former Lowell Technical School, now UMass Lowell and became a Certified Electronic Technician. Mr. Kassin enlisted in the United States Army at the outbreak of World War II, September 9, 1941. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, and Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon. He was honorably discharged June 1945.Returning home, he became associated with Gaumont Television and Gilbert Television and Repair before starting Kassin Television and Repair in Lowell. He operated for 15 years before retiring in 1978. Mr. Kassin was a licensed TV and Electronics Repairman. He was a member of the American Legion, and the Walker Rogers VFW Post 662 in Lowell. Years ago, he was also a volunteer Firefighter with the City of Lowell. Mr. Kassin was a huge sports fan, and enjoyed watching all types of sports on TV. According to family members, Mr. Kassin was heard singing on WLLH on the weekends, during the 1950's and sang in the Choir at Saint Rita's ChurchMr. Kassin is survived by two daughters, Dorothea Coyne and her companion Joe Belanger of Pelham, NH and Maureen Lalime and her husband Robert of Merrimack, NHOne son, Richard Kassin and his wife Tracey of Lowell. Eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late John H. Kassin.
