JOE ELLIS SMITH1924-2008Joe Smith, 84, of Cantonment, FL passed away at this home on July 17, 2008. He was born January 18, 1924 in Hattiesburg, MS to the late Rev. Andrew and Clara Callahan Smith. He moved with his family to Pensacola in 1937.In his youth he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps, and then served 8 years in the U.S, Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict. Following his service in the Navy, he worked for St. Regis Paper Company until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cantonment.He was preceded in death by his sisters, Christine Gladden and Grace Smith. He is survived by his sisters, Erma Jean Bishop and Jeanette Hamilton of Pensacola, and Judy Hansen and her husband, Duane, from Houston, TX and by numerous nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 22, 2008 from 10-11:00 am at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am with Rev. John Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Bayview Memorial Park. Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel is entrusted with the arrangements.
