Joan Ward, 78, died April 4, 2009, at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach. She was born in Jersey City, N.J., and lived in Vero Beach for five years, coming from Secaucus, N.J. Before retirement, she was a registered nurse for many years. She was active with the American Legion Auxiliary, serving as state president in 1997 in New Jersey, and with the Ladies Guild at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church. Survivors include her son, Joseph Ward of Dayton, N.J.; daughter, Bernadette Bronowich, of Secaucus; sisters, Beatrice Wysocki, Adrianne Wozniak and Constance Krumbhaar, all of Vero Beach; and five grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38015. SERVICES: Services will be at 11 a.m. April 20 at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, N.J. Arrangements are by Aycock Funeral Home in Fort Pierce.
