WHITE, Joan (nee Mainman) July 6, 1924 - December 16, 2012 As the sun rose on December 16, 2012, with family at her side, Joan slipped quietly away into the arms of her Lord. Joan was born in Manitoba, the youngest of six children born to Percy and Ethel Mainman, and spent her early years in Winnipeg. She married Stanley Good in 1947 after which they moved to the Okanagan for several years, returning to Winnipeg in 1956 where they raised their family. After Stan's death in 1984, Joan moved to Nanaimo where she met and married her second husband, H. James White in 1989. Joan was predeceased by her first husband Stanley Good (1984), her second husband Jim White (2001) and Jim's son Blair. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by many, including her sister Blanche Ablett (Winnipeg); her brother-in-law Roy Good (Saskatoon); her three children, Jean Hamilton (Don Schultz), Janet Robson and Grant Good (Diane), her grandchildren Andrew, Christopher and Michael Hamilton; Kathleen and Jessica Robson; Jason and Trevor Good and all their families as well as Jim's children Reid, Kenton, Bruce and Margaret and their families and Joan's many nieces and nephews. Joan enjoyed and was accomplished at many sports, particularly golf that she continued to play into her eighties; gardening and handcrafts (especially knitting and quilting). She was a past member of the Bowen Park Seniors Quilters and the Crescent Chapter No. 10 of the Order of Eastern Star as well as Miriam Temple No. 2 of The Daughters of the Nile. She had a gentle heart and gave generously to many organizations in support of those less fortunate. The family gives special thanks to Mom's dear friend Mary Currie who provided so much love and caring over the last years and to Father Brian Evans of St Paul's Anglican Church for his support and prayers. They also want to thank the staff at Woodgrove Manor for their compassionate care and for making Mom's last days as comfortable as possible. At Joan's request there will be no service however the family will have a private farewell in the New Year.
