Joan Smith EAGLE BAY/FLORIDA Joan M. Smith, 79, of Florida and Eagle Bay, NY, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse. She was born in Utica on February 20, 1934, the daughter of Alexander and Lucy Wendzel Mieczkowski, and attended local schools. She was a former resident of New Jersey, where she was employed as a Civil Servant with the Boro of Ringwood. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Eagle Bay Volunteer Fire & Hose Co. Her survivors include her two sons, Emery (Laurie) Smith, of Greenwood Lake, NY, and Jeffrey Smith, of Eagle Bay; a daughter, Kathy and her husband, David McKinnon, of FL; a sister, Helen Moskal, of Utica; and a brother, Edward Mieczkowski, of Taberg. Also included are her three grandchildren, Monica, Nina and Alex. She was predeceased by her sister, Marion Maretta. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church, Utica. Those that wish may call on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the Kowalczyk Funeral Home, 1156 Lincoln Ave., Utica. Burial will take place in Holy Trinity Cemetery.
