Smith, Joan RichardsonApril 1, 2007Joan Smith, 76, Laurel, N.Y. formerly of Englewood died April 1, 2007.Services will be held at a future date. Mealey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Wallace; a son, Douglas of Buffalo, N.Y.; daughters Elizabeth of Norfolk, Va. and Carol of Newark, Del.; and 8 grandchildren.Mrs. Smith, a summer resident of Laurel, N.Y. and Englewood, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 1, 2007 at Churchman's Village Nursing Home in Newark, Del. Born in Rockaway Beach and raised in Rockville Centre, N.Y., Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late Harry and Mae (McCoy) Richardson. A 1950 graduate of Southside High School, she was a member of the school's earliest women's basketball and softball teams, and was a member of the school's Athletic Hall of Fame. A homemaker, she coached girls' basketball in the 1960s, moving on to work as a referee until her retirement in 1984.
