MCCARTHY, Joan Lucille (Slater), 77, of New Port Richey, Fla., died February 21, 2007. She was born in Clare County, Mich., and moved here from Howell, Mich., in 1973. She retired after 15 years of service as a registered nurse at Community Hospital of New Port Richey. She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, New Port Richey. Joan is survived by her husband of 55 years, James D. "Red" McCarthy, New Port Richey; her sons, Dennis of Spring Hill, Fla. and William of Tampa; her daughters, Mary Sue of Tallahassee, Fla., Marjorie of New Port Richey and Ellen of New Port Richey; her brothers, Ernest Slater and James Slater, both of Clare, Mich., and Mike Slater of Floresville, Texas; her sisters, Sue Mae Lloyd of Clare, Connie Good of Midland, Mich., and Linda Skillman of Calhan, Colo.; two grandsons and four granddaughter. Visitation will take place noon until the service begins at 1 p.m. Saturday, at Dobies Funeral Home.
