EXETER - Joan M. Sanborn, 95, died on Jan. 12, 2014, at the Exeter Hospital. She was born on May 9, 1918, in Exeter, the daughter of the late Mary (Bates) Morrison and Joseph Gregg Morrison. She was a graduate of Robinson Female Seminary, class of 1937, and was a graduate of the New England School of Art. She also took courses at the University of New Hampshire for certification for teaching. She taught art in the Exeter school system for 19 years, most of those in the Exeter High School. She also served as director of art for the Exeter schools. She was a member of the Exeter Women's Club for more than 50 years and was a member of the Seacoast Retired Teacher Association. She loved traveling in Europe during her teaching days with the groups from school. In her younger days, she sang in the Congregational choir, did the flowers, taught Sunday School and ran the jewelry table at the church fairs for 40 years with Alice Lee, taking that job over from their mothers. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 50 years, and one grandson. She is survived by two children, Judith Sanborn Bishop and Joseph Gregg Sanborn; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. . SERVICES: Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 16, at 11 a.m. at the Exeter Congregational Church, 21 Front St., Exeter. Burial will follow in the Exeter Cemetery. Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter, is handling the arrangements.
