Joanie was born in Riverhead Long Island, the daughter of Irene and James Henderson. She is survived by her sister, Irene and brother-in-law Ronald Wilkinson of Ventura, California. She is also survived by Amy, John and Hannah Kocik and their family who welcomed Joanie as part of their own family and where Joanie resided for the past 18 years. Joanie enjoyed writing letters, bowling, Special Olympics, storytelling, volunteer work and going out for lunch with her advocate Carolyn Nytch. She attended the Susquehanna Day Habilitation Program in Binghamton where she had many friends and previously worked @ ACHIEVE's Country Valley Industries. Memorial Services will be held at the Osterhoudt-Madden Funeral Home 69-71 Maple Street Harpursville on Friday at 4 p.m. Pastor Sue Crawson-Brizzolara, Pastor of Ouaquaga United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Knox Cemetery, Ouaquaga at a later date. Gifts in Joan's memory may be made to ACHIEVE 125 Cutler Pond Road Binghamton, NY 13905.
