Smith and Sons 731-427-5555 --><!-- DisplayFullObituaryText -->Joan Eason WilliamsJoan Eason Williams, beloved wife and widow of Dr. Robert Moody Williams, Sr., passed away peacefully on Monday, November 17, 2014 in Atlanta, Georgia. She had lived in Atlanta since 2009 after residing in Jackson since 1958. She was born January 30, 1924 in Leapwood, Tennessee and had two brothers, James and John Eason. She met the love of her life, Robert, shortly after he left the Army and returned from Japan. They were married for 58 years until his death in 2011. They had four sons and six grandchildren, of whom one granddaughter is expecting their first great-grandchild. They also had three nephews from her brother, John Henry Eason and Pat Eason.Joan graduated from Freed-Hardeman College and Union University, earning a degree in English and is a school teacher until 1956. She taught at Adamsville at that and Humes High School in Memphis Tennessee. She was a longtime member of Campbell Street Church of Christ in Jackson. She was involved in numerous church, community and political affairs, which included Freed-Hardeman Associates, Freed Hardeman Board, Jackson Christian School Board, The Cotillion Club of Jackson, Tennessee Dental Association Auxiliary, Madison County Election Commission, Tennessee Higher Education Commission, Republican Women and Phyllis Schlafly's Eagle Forum. She was active in Republican politics in Madison County and at the state level as a political organizer in multiple campaigns. She was recognized as Republican Woman of the Year in the state of Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert M. Williams, Sr.; her brothers, James A. Eason (killed in action, World War II) and Dr. John Henry Eason. She leaves behind four sons, Dr. Robert Williams, Jr. (Dede) of Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. J. Barton Williams (Pamela) of Columbus, Mississippi, Dr. John E. Williams of Jonesboro, Arkansas and Henry Williams (Ellen) of Brentwood, Tennessee. She has six grandchildren, Emily Williams Cantley (Micah) of San Diego, California, second Lieut. Matthew Williams of Honolulu, Hawaii, Cadet Ian Williams of West Point, New York, Taylor Williams of Nashville, Tennessee, Mary Grace Williams of Atlanta, Georgia, Samuel Williams of Atlanta, Georgia. Emily Williams Cantley is expecting Mrs. Williams' first great-grandchild in May, 2015. She also leaves behind three nephews, Dr. John Eason Junior of Maryville, Tennessee, Dr. James Eason of Memphis, Tennessee and Dr. Drew Eason of Selmer, Tennessee.Her service will be performed by Ray Hawk of Campbell Street Church of Christ. The service will be at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 1 p.m. Family will receive friends beginning at 11 a.m. until the time of service.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Youth Town.Funeral arrangements are under the direction of George A.
