Joan-Caroline Johnson, née en 1949, conjointe de James M, fille de William et Frances, est décédée le 4 décembre 2011. Veuillez consulter son avis de décès ici:
Joan Caroline Johnson, formerly of Niceville, Fla., passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011, at her home in Bishop, Ga., surrounded by her family and friends following a long and courageous battle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Joan was born on April 12, 1949, and grew up in Silver Spring, Md. She married James M. (Jim) Johnson on June 30, 1972, in Sacramento, Calif. Together, they travelled the world, collecting fine wines, having adventures, making new friends and creating many cherished memories. Besides Jim, she is also survived by her mother, Frances Williams of Solvang, Calif.; her brothers, Jack (Susan) Williams, also of Solvang and Bob Williams of Venice, Fla.; her sister, Janet (David) Quinn of Brooksville, Fla.; her two "boys," Preston and Webster; and her best friend, Abbye Perlman of Niceville. She was preceded in death by her father, William F. "Bill" Williams.Joan was a very outgoing, active, and caring person. She worked in the mortgage title business for some 25 years, finally retiring in 1999. She loved to walk, whether in her Rocky Bayou neighborhood, the English countryside, or on the beaches and hills of her beloved St. Bart's. An award winning needle crafter, she used her talents to support charities such as Project Linus and Quilts For Kids, as well as providing gifts for friends and family alike. Joan also loved animals and was a strong supporter of PAWS.Having moved to Niceville in 1984, Joan and Jim were ready for a change when he retired in 2009. They chose to build their retirement home in the little town of Bishop, just outside of Athens. Athens had attracted them for years with its great restaurants and entertainment scene plus the cosmopolitan and intellectually diverse atmosphere offered by a college town. In addition, Athens' proximity to Atlanta provided easy access to a major international airport, great shopping and excellent medical facilities. Special thanks go out to the doctors and staff at the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University and the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins. They were the "rocks" that Joan relied upon during her difficult journey and provided her with unequalled care and caring. To the folks that supported her, Joan sent the following note shortly before she found out that her end was near. It epitomizes what a classy lady she was and what she was all about: "I don't know how to begin to thank you all for your support, thoughts and prayers during this past year. Your cards and calls really lifted my spirits. Because of you, I have been able to get through the treatments so far and the problems that go with them. Having cancer sucks, but when you have a circle of friends and family like I have, the journey is easier. Hugs, Joan." Joan wished that all our friends would join her family in sharing food and drink at her favorite restaurant, the Bay Café' in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., to celebrate her life. We will gather there on Sunday, Jan. 22, starting at 3 p.m. to honor her request and say a final farewell.
