JOAN C. SMITH VALPARAISO, IN Joan C. Smith, age 77 of Valparaiso, passed peacefully away Monday, June 21, 2010 at the VNA Horton Hospice Center. She was born October 14, 1932 in Aurora, IN to Ervin and Mattie V. (Cummins) Morehead. Joan had worked as a nurse at the Porter County Home, was also employed at Indiana General as a Timekeeper, was an active faithful member of New Life Wesleyan Church and their Women's Bible Study in Chesterton. Survivors include three children: Pamela (John) Vollmer of Osgood, IN, Donalyn Smith of Chesterton, and Dwayne (Gennelle) Smith of Chesterton; seven grandchildren: Kerri, Angie, Tiffany, Ashley, Courtney, Shane and Kalina; four great-grandchildren: Ryan, Carter, Jacob and Kingston; many loving nieces, aunts, friends; and her dear friend, Diane Groves. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Raymond Morehead. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 11:00 AM at New Life Wesleyan Church, 75 E. 1100 N., Chesterton, with Pastor Allen Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Angelcrest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the VNA Hospice of Porter County or New Life Wesleyan Church. MoellerFuneralHome.com
