PATERSON-Jessie Margaret (Ferguson) Paterson, after a brief illness, passed away peacefully at the Pasqua Palliative Care Unit in Regina on Sunday, November 20, 2005 at the age of 88 years. Jessie was born on July 7, 1917 at the family homestead near Moffat. She took her elementary and secondary education at Wolseley. In 1939 she graduated from the Grey Nun's School of Nursing with her R.N. Diploma. Jessie began her nursing career at the King Edward Hospital in Kamsack. She returned to Regina and worked for several years in the Emergency Department of the Grey Nun's Hospital. In 1942 she met and married James (Jim) Roy Paterson. While raising her two children Bill and Betty, she worked at the Grey Nun's where she practiced as a general duty nurse and a clinical teacher. In 1964 she was appointed head nurse of the 2nd floor. In 1968 she accepted a nursing position at SaskPower and SaskTel. She worked full time at SaskTel in Occupational Health until her retirement in 1982. She returned to work part-time in that position until 1987. She continued as a volunteer at the Pasqua Hospital until October 2005. An avid sports fan, Jessie loved to watch curling and baseball on television with her friends and rarely missed a Saskatchewan Roughrider game when they played in Regina. Jessie loved her cottage at Regina Beach and spent many happy hours there. Predeceased by her parents Daniel Jr. and Elizabeth Ferguson; her husband Jim in 1976; brothers Alex, Jim and John, Jessie is survived by her beloved son Bill and daughter-in-law Shirley of Regina, grandchildren Michael, Russell and Jodie Paterson and greatgrandchildren Jessica and Mitchell. Jessie also shared her love with daughter Betty Lawrence, son-in-law Rob and grandchildren Kathy, Paul and Laura Lawrence; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Jessie's life will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. in Westminster United Church, 3025 13th Avenue, Regina with Rev. Alan Schooley officiating. Private family interment in Regina Memorial Gardens. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Pasqua Palliative Care Unit, 4101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, SK S4T 1A5; Regina Grey Nun's Nurses Alumni, #103-1130 Radway St. N. Regina, SK S4X 4J5 or a charity of choice. Jessie and her family wish to thank Dr. Shanthi Thamilvaanan, Dr. Tian O'Carroll, Donna Huntley and Residents and staff of the Family Medicine Unit, staff of 5E at the General Hospital and staff at the Pasqua Palliative Care for their kindness and care.
