Jessie Irene (Smith) Rowlandson After a brief illness, Jessie Irene Rowlandson died at the Englehart and District Hospital on February 1, 2007. She was born in Heaslip on July 8, 1914 to Levi and Margaret Jane (Kirbyson) Smith. She was educated at SS #2 School in Evanturel Township and was proud of obtaining a grade nine certificate in those days. Mrs. Rowlandson’s life work was as a seamstress in Englehart and Kingston. She was born and raised on the farm homesteaded by her father in 1900 and still farmed by the Smith families. She lived most of her adult life in Englehart with a short time in Kingston and eight years with her daughter in Thunder Bay and Terrace Bay. She raised two children and was a very involved mother, attending all of her son Glenn’s sports events and always enjoying her daughter Gayle and her friends Norma, Joyce and Sandra telling her about their escapades. Mrs. Rowlandson loved quilting, embroidery work, knitting and crafts and won many prizes for her fancy work at the Englehart fair. She also loved travelling and spending time with all family, contributing to numerous charities. Mrs. Rowlandson is survived by her son (Burton) Glenn Rowlandson, his wife Gail (Wallace) and their daughters Gwen Gale and Glenna; Gwen’s husband Jim Coles and their children Garrett and Megan; her daughter Gayle Arlene Rose of Thunder Bay and Englehart and her son (Robert Christopher) John Rose of Oconomowoc, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; sisters-in-law Margaret and Bernice Smith of Heaslip; cousins Clara Watson, Mabel Wilston and Muriel Rhiness of Muskoka. She was predeceased by her baby, Diana Irene on May 28, 1941; her parents; sisters Mary (May) Drury and Edna Chuter; and brothers Gordon and Chester Smith. A memorial service will be held May 18, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the Englehart Baptist Church followed by interment at the Englehart Cemetery and lunch at the Rebekah Lodge. Anyone wishing to share their memories about Mrs. Rowlandson will be joyfully invited to do so at the service. The family thanked Dr. Brian Primrose for his compassion and care and his great relationship with their mother for all those years.
