Mr. Jesse Melvin Smith, Sr., 74, died May 26, 2001 in Hadlow Center in Jacksonville, FL. A native of Sylvania but had resided in Coffee County most of his life. he was married to the late Sally Faye Batten Smith and was son of the late Rev. William B. Smith and Sallie Page Smith. He was retired business owner of ladies clothing stores called Fayes Inc. in Waycross, Douglas and Cordele. He was a southeast Georgia reporter for the Florida Times Union when he lived in Brunswick. The survivors include a daughter, Rhenda Zazuela (husband Dr. Ric) of Waycross; a son, Jesse M. Smith, Jr. (wife Susan); three grandchildren; two brothers, John P. Smith (wife Dot) of Jacksonville, FL, Billy Smith (wife Edith) of Douglas. A Funeral service was held May 29 in Waycross, Georgia. Burial will be in the Douglas City Cemetery in Douglas, GA. Music Funeral Home in Waycross was in charge. The family will be receiving friends at Music Funeral Home tonight from 6 until 8 oclock.
