Jesse Bridge Henderson, 93, of Aberdeen, N.J., died peacefully in his home on Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010, after a life very well-lived. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Waitt-Nelms Funeral Home, 501 Highway 79, Morganville, N.J. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, Oct. 22, 2010, at 11 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 165 Bethany Rd., Holmdel, N.J. Interment follows at Fair View Cemetery, 456 Highway 35, Middletown, N.J. Online condolences may be sent via www.waittnelmsfh.com. Jesse was born on July 8, 1917, in White Plains, N.Y., where he grew up playing ice hockey, and generally trying to avoid: (a) getting into too much trouble, or (b) being inside. After graduating from high school, Jesse went to work in Manhattan for several years before enlisting in the Army at the start of World War II. He served his country in the Pacific Theater and returned home only when the war ended. Once home, Jesse went to work for the Oakite Corporation in Manhattan, where he met "his Mary," his beloved wife of 53 years, and where he worked until retiring in 1989, the year the last of his five children graduated from college. Jesse and Mary were married on June 8, 1957, in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Union City, N.J. They lived in a small apartment in Rutherford, N.J., with three young children until they bought their first and only house in Aberdeen, which they moved into in November of 1963. Mary and Jesse added two more children to their family once they settled in Aberdeen, and proceeded to happily, busily, noisily, raise their five children. Throughout the many years of his life, Jesse loved Mary above all, but also loved surf fishing, stock car racing, playing golf, and virtually anything else he could do outdoors. He swelled with pride over the accomplishments of his children, their spouses, and his nine grandchildren. A handsome, proud, independent, hardworking, good man, Jesse is loved, missed, and survived by his children, Robert Henderson and his wife, Karen' Susan Schneider and her husband, George; Carolyn Henderson Meier and her husband, Gregory; William Henderson and his wife, Pamela, and John Henderson and his wife, Alison, as well as his grandchildren, Kaitlin, Corey, Mackenzie, AnnaMaria, Finnegan, Devin, Jack, Caton, and Jesse, and of course, by "his Mary."
